We’re looking at the Scriptural basis for another aspect of the 4th membership vow we take when we join a Presbyterian church,

Do you promise to support the church in its worship and work to the best of your ability?

Last week we considered supporting the church in its work with our time and gifts; this week we’re looking at supporting the church in its worship and work to the best of our abilities with our finances, examining Paul’s directions to the Corinthian church in
2 Corinthians 9.

It is important for churches to talk about money, not because it’s a good way to bilk people of it, but because the Bible talks frequently about money: how to be responsible with our money, how to be systematic in using our money for building Christ’s Kingdom, how to avoid becoming slaves of or addicts to money. Paul points out how generosity addresses all of these issues.
